The Municipality of Batticaloa Takes the Lead for Sri Lanka

Celene Fung, Strategic Planner of ASSET, WUSC helped the Municipality of Batticaloa, Sri Lanka launch a Women Friendly Cities Challenge (WFCC). The objective of the WFCC is to identify issues and set priorities that specifically impact women and to guide municipal budgets and to develop responsive programs and city infrastructure. The WFCC will also establish engagement processes and opportunities for women and community stakeholders to provide input into decision making processes. Making Batticaloa ”women friendly” will make the community more responsive to the needs of women, vulnerable members of society, family and children.
